December graf tour of Bristol

Hob and I set off one crisp December afternoon on a mission to cover some miles and see as much street work as possible in an afternoon before unwinding at the 12 Days of Xmas show. We achieved quite a bit. The only downer, I forgot to bring enough memory for the camera. My set is about half of the tour, starting in Easton, over the M32 to St. Pauls and Montpelier. The tour is also here http://www.flickr.com/photos/85107267@N00/sets/72157603478365798/
First stop, the streets around Mivart St

Polka dotty on an old garage door. I don't know who this is by but I really like it. One of many highlights.

Over the M32 into tcf and aagh territory.

Dan - so good.

Xenz

Into St.Paul's

Jago

Cyclops / Sweet Tooth. I love this. Hit up on a large white canvas (a white van). Kinda feels like boredom had set in or wanted to warm up before a larger hit.

Banksy, a real surprise to see this one still around.

Dan - check the detail touches in the background and dresses! Incredibly good.

Jago with some beautiful colours.

And, I leave you on a piece I have no idea who created , but I like, and also where I ran out of camera memory... and we'd only just started! Next stop for those interested was Banner Road and 39 Steps, The Old England Pub and then off for some Sweet Tooth views, Xenz and Banksy on Nine Tree Hill, before heading up Jamaica St and Park Row.

Graffle

Banksy for a fiver?? Oh, go on then.

I saw the organiser of this excellent graffraffle on the Beeb last night and he was quick to point out that without Nick Walker's help there may not have been a Banksy in the old lucky dip. But there is... and a pretty impressive prize it will be for one lucky person. A Studio Proof 1/1 of Banksy's latest print Stop and Search (still waiting..... see previous post). Knowing what Banksy APs go for on the open market this is a seriously big prize for a raffle. I shall be down there at 12 Days on Saturday and will propably buy a ticket for Dicy, Xenz and Jago as well. Spreading my luck.

Check out all the details at http://www.graffle.co.uk/.

If anyone's interested I have an audio recording of Dom on BBC Radio Bristol yesterday. Such a great cause as well. My youngest son has had a trip to the Bristol Children's Hospital earlier this year and he received some fantastic care there. Well done Banksy and Dom.

Fanks Hob. My Jago original

My good friend Hob bought me a Jago doodle. An original biro and coloured pen on paper job. I'm stoked. Framed him, "POS 5", yesterday (temporary, need a mount) in an old frame I have knicked from Helen's degree show work (it was only rotting away in the loft so I consider it rescued). Comments on this beauty welcome as always.

Got one!

I've been trying for nearly a couple of years to get a signed Banksy. They're elusive things. I've failed on the last three attempts to get a sniff. I have a few unsigned from before the LA prints and I got as far as an unsigned from the recent LA series, but I put it back into the POW feeding frenzy as I simply didn't like it (Morons). Probaly not my smartest move ever but hey, I just didn't want it at the time.

This week the miracle happened and I 'may' have prized the Holy Grail. I ain't getting too excited as it's not in my hands yet but the postie could get a big hug from me when they arrive (actually, maybe not).

Decisions decisions

The new album by Schengen is going to be called 'Ce gil' or 'Bij', but we're not conclusively decided on which one it will be.

The album is shaping up well. Had a playback on Friday and we're decided on the track order.

'Fendered' begins it and 'Cep' finishes it and in between are 7 or so tracks that we're very happy with.

It wil be out on Distant Noise in the Spring of next year.

BK is back

Finally got Burger King back on the wall. Nice to see this one framed up again. I also got round to frame up Helen's Faile Captivating print which I bought her in the Summer. She wasn't sure about it to begin with but is liking it now I think.

Only xx more pieces to go... :(*

Craymachine

A good friend of mine sent me this. It's an instant sound tool on the web that's a bit of fun. Great for the kids too! I've decided that rather than spend years trying to come anywhere near the brilliance of Disco Inferno, I can just press L and X on the Craymachine

MBV gigs sells out in minutes this morning

Doing the Manchester date.

Xenz forum

Xenz now has a forum.

It will be good to see and read more Xenz-specific stuff rather than wading through banksy.info which has become so big. It's 100 posts window gives you about an hour's worth of stuff! It's a great forum but has grown... mmm rather understandably.

On the Big Ship Thekla

are the Cardiacs (this Wednesday). I might head down there if not still feeling the grips of flu.

Nice new little monome doc

Just discovered this nice little documentary about monome. It's excellent glimpse behind-the-scenes. I love the way Brian just decides to solder together a new 256 unit for the film crew and play it.. superb.
In additon to a 256 I now want a pizza oven in my garden.

Press Cafe

Press Cafe from stretta on Vimeo.

I can't wait to try this lovely app out. It's a bit like Flin for the monome but with more functionality and easier pitch and note length edits. Look out for the cat.

Banksy spotting in the East End

Me, a settee and a Banksy.

Xenz show

Had a lovely night at the Xenz show at the Forster Gallery in London this week. Some groundbreaking pieces from Xenz this time round. He's starting to experiment with aluminium and found metal as a canvas and these pieces looked truly superb. 2 great prints released on the night too. About half of the work had been snapped up 15 mins into the show which tells its own story.

My top 5 from the show:
Getting Up (see above)
Birds and the Bees II
Fan Motor
Butterfly Triptych
Spring (15 layer!! screenprint edition of 50)

Really hospitable bunch at the gallery. Everyone greeted with friendly smiles and lashings of free beer. A good formula.

Off the wall

This fella fell of the wall a couple of weeks back. The last time I buy cheap nasty frames. He survived the fall thankfully.
It's by Dolk, and called 'Burger King'. Released last year via POW.

Eine

A lovely new piece from Eine arrived last week. 70x70 black gloss screenprint on giclee. Very pleased with it.
Vandal his current Show now runs until September 15th at Kemistry Gallery, 43 Charlotte Road, Shoreditch, London, EC2.

New print from Dolk

The new screenprint from Dolk via Handmadeposters. It sold out on the morning of the release.

Lovely 256 loveliness

tehn with two fifty six from tehn and Vimeo.

Here's Tehn, the main man behind the monome, playing the soon-to-be-released '256'.
See monome.org for all the details.

distant noise records

A friend of mine Tarl is setting up a new label and it looks like it's going to be a fantatstic venture. He's got some great artists lined up, including jessica bailiff, yellow6, as well as a new album from schengen!

The label is distant noise records.

The intention is to release a series of 12 CDR’s, one per month for a year.

Each release will be limited to 100 copies and presented in clear wallets with a double sided colour sleeve inside or possibly a card insert. The artwork for the series will be created by Ben Curzon (Planet Mu, Make Mine Music, amongst others), and the 12 CDR covers, once seen together, will form one image.

LV chILd

I managed to be one of the lucky ones to get hold of this incredible print. Released for a second time, in less limited and not signed run of 400, by the amazing folks at Souled Out Studios. The artist is Beejoir.

L.E.T.

New purchase from L.E.T. who is based in Germany. It's enormous!

Xenz unwrapped

Bought some beautiful canvasses friom xenz at the 'Workshop' show last year. They've survived the move to the new gaff and hopefully it won't be too long before they're hanging again. Solo show from xenz later this year - see the Forster Gallery's website.

new banksy?

Has been spotted near Shepton Mallet. Certainly looks like his work. Follows his portaloo installation at the Glastonbury Festival site last week.

two fifty six monome

is on its way. The photo below is the prototype. The guys at monome have indicated that it will ship with a dark wooden enclosure. Looks incredible.
