Schengen were played on Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone on BBC6Music this weekend. He played 'Bake Off Part1' from our new album Ce Gil (available here).
I'm so stoked with this.
The show is available to 'Listen Again' for the next week. We're around 1hour 40 mins into the show and follow Robert Wyatt!

Not a Penny..
Just back from the Not a Penny show in Bristol.
A Healthy queue pre-show. Amazingly it took about 30 seconds to filter in from where I was standing here. By which time the entire queue were at the sales desk ;) Nah, not quite..but nearly!

Immense. Sweet Tooth Oi Oi

Birthday for Cyclops?

C215 outside

I think SPQR must have had an incredible night. Fair to say the majority of the sales queue were for these and the print.

Bit of Rowdy - in memory of Mary's stall that used to be a few hundred yards up the road.

Canvas from Cept

Paris

Paris

Cyclops and Mau Mau

Mau Mau Bees and Banana

Mudwig and the masses

Cyclops

K-Guy

Ullo

Paris

Khanage - one to watch.

Khanage again

The sketch from Gaia.

Outside

45 rpm

Two great canvasses from Will Barras.

Some Matt Small's

Sweet!!

All in all another hit from the Steal From Work crew who have uncovered and given us another interesting and spacious venue. The highlights for me are the Sweet Tooths, they just dominate the room and grab your attention I think. The other highlight for me was the serious paintwork in the outside area and the 'finds' you can make around the venue and up the Glos Road. It's definitely worth popping in for this one.
The general scene last night.

Art under the hammer down Totterdown way

A found Rowdy in London's East End
This 'URBAN ART AUCTION' should be interesting. The first in the area since Graffle night probably. Not run by Dom this one but by the auctioneers Dreweatts.
Some heavyweight names included in this one so it should bring a massive amount of interest from around the UK and further a field to Totterdown.
Includes work from 39steps Collective: Dora, Hine, FLX and Rowdy as well as Faile, Adam Neate, Cyclops, Nick Walker, Goldie and Banksy.
At 'Paintworks', Bath Rd, Totterdown, Bristol
Thu 5th June Private view includes DJs Daddy G and Queen B.
6- 10pm
Open Daily 6 - 9th June 10 - 6pm

An album from Jellya
Just before my trip to Spain I started compiling the tracks for my debut Jelly Antler album. It was an interesting and revealing process on the back of the Schengen album, my mind is definitely ready for track listing decisions and some heavy editing and hours to be spent on mastering (no monitors again, and I don't think I can borrow this time).
11 tracks have made it through to the shortlist and they'll probably all stay which is gratifying at this stage. I've no title in mind at all at present, but I'm sure one will come up over a bottle of wine or three with E. The last two albums came that way.

New show in Bristol ~ Not a Penny off the Pay, Not a Second on the Day
From the fine folks that brought Bristol the magnificent 12 Days of Xmas show at the Bridewell police station comes a new show that in some ways even eclipses that line up. Steal From Work present their second major group art show ‘Not A Penny Off The Pay, Not A Second On The Day’.
A great line up of artists includes
C215 - Paris
CEPT - London
CYCLOPS - Bristol
GAIA - New York - OMG!!!
MATT SMALL – London
MAU MAU - Devon
MOTORBOY – Bristol
MUDWIG - Bristol - HUZARR!!
PARIS - Hull - YOU BEAUTY!
ROWDY - Bristol
SWEET TOOF – London - TOOTHY!!
WILL BARRAS - UK
Simply can't wait for this. My good friend Hob picked up a beauty from Cyclops at the last show and I may, given the opportunity, add a Cyclops to my collection at this one.
The Old Motorcycle Workshop, 15-19 Stokes Croft
Thursday 1st May - Sunday 11th May, 12-7pm
This is opposite good old Pieminister. So a Heidi Pie for afters then...

Schengen Ce Gil Album reviews
We've received some cracking reviews for the new album. Here are the reviews from the mighty Norman Records and Small Fish.

Now on that limited Distant Noise CD label comes a new CD from Schengen, 'Ce Gil '. 10 tracks of atmospheric variable electronics from the former krautrocker. 'Fendered' is playful electro taking in snippets of Thieves Like Us era New Order with light techno touches. 'Duc' is aquatic, motorik electro. Some parts glide & glow with positive radiance. Really earthy & pretty, fluid textures, skittering beats, hypnotic Orbital-esque piano loops, digital bursts of fuzz....the list goes on. This is a quality release, an eclectic collection of moods from a quiet old master! Limited to 100 numbered copies so be quick!

Distant Noise have released some super CDs in the last couple of months and the Bristol duo of Schengen deliver the third in the series. This album pretty much defies categorization in many ways and I think that's why it's so good. Having said that it does mostly feature electronic music in many different shapes and forms. Thus, you get melodic, classic sounding electronica with sweet chords and homely tones. But, you also get some fairly hefty sounding old-school techno tracks with a minimal leaning and some very robust beats. In my opinion, that's actually when they're at their best as they really let loose some rocking moments. All in all in it's a brilliantly varied and extremely tidy set of tracks. Bravo.
